“I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.” 2 Timothy 1:3

After two long years of being bedridden with dementia, my mother passed away. Caring for her during that time was a long and emotionally exhausting journey. When she finally passed away, I felt as though I had mentally collapsed; all the energy I had invested over those two years was completely drained from my body. I had nothing left. I lost my motivation to socialize, care for myself, or care for others. I lost my drive to thrive.

One day, while I was home alone, there was a knock at the door. I didn’t want to answer it, but I pushed myself to get up from the couch. I felt annoyed that I even had to get up. “Who could this be, showing up unannounced?” I muttered to myself.

When I opened the door, I found a friend from church standing there, holding flowers and food. She had lost her father not long before I lost my mother, and if anyone understood what it was like to lose a parent, it was her. Fresh in her own grief cycle, she intentionally reached out to show me empathy and love. She told me she was praying for me and reminded me that God has me in His hands. Overwhelmed, I collapsed in her arms and sobbed. It was exactly what I needed to hear.

Having friends who possess sincere faith is invaluable. Their unwavering love is a constant source of support, making it easier to navigate life’s challenges. These friends encourage us during tough times and uplift our spirits through their heartfelt words and actions. Their genuine belief in us and our shared values fosters a deep connection and trust, allowing us to grow together in our journeys of faith and personal development. The presence of such friends enriches our lives, reminding us of the strength that comes from community and the power of belief in one another.

God equips us with His Holy Spirit, who protects us from danger and fear. He gives us the strength to face challenges with courage. Additionally, He surrounds us with friends of solid faith who offer encouragement and support as we navigate opposition and triumphs.

  • Who has God placed in your life as a cherished friend?

  • How are you being a supportive friend to those around you?
